Firstly a quick update regarding the conspicuous absence of a gallery of images from this year's Manx Grand Prix.

Unfortunately, I managed to injure my back during practice week, pursuing the dangerous activity of, ahem, picking up my 1 year old daughter...

As a result, I wasn't able to get out and about with the camera to cover the event. I did see a few laps of practice, and most of the Junior race, but that was about it. I have a few pictures - mainly from the Junior - so just get in touch if you're looking for something from that race. I was taking pictures at the top of Bray Hill.

The main thing I wanted to just talk about here was following a conversation with a great local photographer Robin Hines (aka Northline Photography). I mentioned that I didn't usually bother with a media "bib" when covering motorsport. He was quite surprised.

All the motorsport images on this website, apart from those taken at this year's Northwest 200 and the Manx Telecom Rally 2011, were taken from viewing areas open to absolutely anyone. I generally choose not to apply for accreditation because generally I'm not covering the event for anyone in particular - just out enjoying the event with my camera.

I mention this only to try to show that you don't necessarily need to get accredited in order to get half decent results. So my advice to anyone trying out motorsport photography is don't worry too much about standing where the "Pro's" stand, just concentrate on learning about what makes a good image, and how to get the best out of your camera.
